The Pittsburgh Pirates have made a move to strengthen their outfield by signing veteran outfielder Michael Taylor to a one-year deal worth $4 million. This acquisition comes at a crucial time for the team as they are in need of help in right field heading into the upcoming season. Taylor, who is set to turn 33 this month, brings a wealth of experience to the Pirates, having played in the majors for 10 seasons.

Michael Taylor has had a varied career in the MLB, with stops at Washington, Kansas City, and Minnesota before landing in Pittsburgh. He played a significant role in the Washington Nationals’ 2019 World Series win during his seven seasons with the team. In his most recent season with Minnesota, Taylor hit .220 with 21 home runs and 53 RBIs. Throughout his career, Taylor has maintained a .239 batting average with 95 home runs and 332 RBIs, showcasing his power and consistency at the plate.

With the addition of Michael Taylor, the Pirates have solidified their outfield lineup, with Bryan Reynolds in left field and Jack Suwinski in center. However, the right field position has been a point of concern for the team. Connor Joe, who started 49 games in right field last season, is expected to split time at first base this year with Rowdy Tellez. In addition to Joe, the Pirates also have Josh Palacios and Edward Olivares in the mix for the right field position as they aim to improve upon their 76-86 record from last season.

The Pirates’ upcoming season kicks off on March 28th with a game against the Miami Marlins. With the addition of Michael Taylor and a solid core of outfielders, the team is hopeful that they can make strides towards a more successful season. As they continue to make moves to bolster their roster, the Pirates are aiming to compete at a higher level and make a push for the postseason in the competitive NL Central division.
