Karelina’s troubles began when she arrived in Russia on January 2nd to visit her family members, including her 90-year-old grandmother. A video surfaced showing a woman who is believed to be Karelina being led through a building by an official, with her eyes covered by a winter hat.
The United States State Department has been made aware of Karelina’s situation. A Department spokesperson emphasized that the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas is their top priority. They are taking the reports of a detained U.S. citizen in Russia seriously and are committed to providing assistance as needed.
