During a visit to Lambeau Field ahead of the NFL draft, Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford was given a tour of the locker room by the Green Bay Packers. At that time, Aaron Rodgers’ nameplate still hung atop the first locker to the right on the way in.
Inheriting Rodgers’ Locker
Fast-forward to this week’s rookie minicamp, and Clifford found himself standing in front of that same locker. However, this time, the nameplate read “Clifford 8”. The rookie quarterback inherited Rodgers’ old locker and was assigned the jersey number that Rodgers will wear with the New York Jets.
Clifford has already been told multiple times that he is taking over Rodgers’ former locker. Despite understanding the significance of the previous occupant and respecting everything about it, Clifford is focused on doing whatever it takes to help his team win games.
Creating His Own Legacy
Clifford’s locker is located in the same row as Jordan Love, Rodgers’ replacement as the starting quarterback. The backup job behind Love is wide open, and Clifford and returning practice-squad quarterback Danny Etling are the only contenders at this point.
Clifford spent six years at Penn State, where he set school records for quarterback wins, passing yards, and touchdown passes, among other marks. He is excited to be a rookie and learning from his fellow quarterbacks, as he plans on growing and creating his own legacy with the Green Bay Packers.
