Growing up in New Jersey, John Leonardo was destined to become a boxer. With his father being a professional middleweight fighter, Leonardo followed in his father’s footsteps and adopted the nickname “Body Shot,” inspired by his dad’s exceptional body-punching skills. His father instilled in him the importance of mastering the art of body shots, which has become a defining feature of Leonardo’s fighting style.
Leonardo is set to face Frank Gomez on May 11th at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. With an impressive record of 10-1-1, Leonardo has been diligently preparing for this fight, eager to showcase his skills and make a statement in the ring. Despite not knowing much about his opponent, Leonardo has studied Gomez through film and is confident in his ability to come out on top.

Before turning professional in 2021, Leonardo had a successful amateur career, winning the Daily News Golden Gloves and earning over 65 victories in amateur fights. His accolades include victories in the New Jersey Golden Gloves and Diamond Gloves tournaments, as well as international experience competing in Sweden and Denmark as part of the New York Metro Team. Leonardo’s amateur background has provided him with a strong foundation that has translated into success in the professional ranks.
