In an exciting development for the world of motorsports, the NXT Gen Cup is set to pave the way for a new generation of racing talent. Launched last year in Sweden, this groundbreaking series is exclusively open to drivers aged between 15-25 who are taking their first steps into the world of racing. With a total of 20 talented drivers, both male and female, the NXT Gen Cup will showcase their skills and provide them with a platform to shine.

A Thrilling Race Calendar

The NXT Gen Cup promises an action-packed season with six rounds of adrenaline-fueled racing. These rounds will be held in iconic locations such as Misano, Berlin, Monaco, and London for Formula E. In addition, the NXT Gen Cup drivers will have the opportunity to support the prestigious DTM races at the Norisring in July and Hockenheim in October. Each Formula E support event will consist of two 20-minute practice sessions, with the exception of Monaco, which will feature a single practice session. The qualifying session and race will also be held for 20 minutes each, ensuring that every moment on the track is filled with excitement and intensity.

With the introduction of the NXT Gen Cup, Formula E marks the return of a regular support series after the disbandment of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy in 2020. This signifies a renewed focus on nurturing young talent, which is an essential aspect of the sport. Formula E co-founder Alejandro Agag expressed his delight at the addition of the all-electric junior category, emphasizing its role in providing young drivers with the opportunity to race alongside world-class drivers and teams.

The Power of Electric MINI Cooper SE

The NXT Gen Cup will see all 20 drivers competing in electric MINI Cooper SE road cars, specially developed by the renowned Lestrup Racing Team. These front-wheel drive cars pack a punch with 180bhp, and an additional 60bhp can be unleashed with the push-to-pass feature. To ensure optimal performance in all weather conditions, the cars are equipped with Hankook semi-slick all-weather tires. The use of electric vehicles not only highlights the series’ commitment to sustainability, but it also exposes the drivers to cutting-edge technology that is rapidly shaping the future of the automotive industry.

The NXT Gen Cup is the brainchild of former touring car racer Fredrik Lestrup, who continues to play a pivotal role in the development and success of the series. Reflecting on the incredible journey from concept to reality in less than two years, Lestrup expressed his awe at the collective effort invested by everyone involved. The NXT Gen Cup is a testament to the unyielding passion and dedication of the racing community to nurture and inspire the next generation of racing talent.

As the NXT Gen Cup joins forces with Formula E and DTM, it marks an exciting chapter in the motorsports world. With young drivers at the forefront, this electrifying series is set to propel the evolution of racing and cultivate the stars of tomorrow. The future of motorsports has arrived, and it’s ready to race.
