The Milwaukee Brewers recently announced the signing of catcher Gary Sánchez to a one-year contract with a mutual option for the 2025 season. Known for his powerful bat, Sánchez hit 19 home runs last season while splitting time between the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets. Despite his .217 batting average, Sánchez brings an impressive .492 slugging percentage and 47 RBIs to the Brewers lineup.

With the addition of Sánchez, the Brewers are looking to bolster their offense for the upcoming season. William Contreras, who had a standout year in 2024 with a .289 batting average, 17 home runs, and 78 RBIs, will be returning as the team’s primary catcher. The combination of Contreras and Sánchez behind the plate provides the Brewers with options to strengthen their lineup.

In order to make room for Sánchez on the roster, the Brewers designated infielder Jahmai Jones for assignment. Additionally, the team officially signed injured right-hander Brandon Woodruff to a two-year deal. Although Woodruff is expected to miss a significant portion of the upcoming season due to shoulder surgery, the Brewers see him as a key part of their pitching staff moving forward.

Woodruff’s backloaded $17.5 million contract includes a mutual option for the 2026 season. He will receive $2.5 million in 2025 and $5 million in 2026, with a $10 million buyout if the option is not exercised. The contract also includes a full no-trade provision for Woodruff, showcasing the Brewers’ commitment to keeping him in Milwaukee for the foreseeable future.

The signing of Gary Sánchez and the extension of Brandon Woodruff’s contract demonstrate the Brewers’ dedication to improving their roster and building for long-term success. With a strong core of players in place, Milwaukee is poised to compete at a high level in the National League Central and beyond.
