The NBA recently broke six ties among 15 teams to determine the order of selection for the 2024 NBA Draft, which is scheduled for June 26 and 27. One of the ties involved the Charlotte Hornets and the Portland Trail Blazers, who both finished the season with a record of 21-61. The tiebreaker gave the Hornets the edge, placing them in third position and the Trail Blazers in fourth for the upcoming draft. However, there is still uncertainty as Charlotte could finish no lower than seventh and Portland could potentially drop to eighth depending on the results of the NBA Draft lottery on May 12. The Hornets have a 13.3% chance of winning the lottery, while the Trail Blazers have slightly lower odds at 13.2%.

Another tiebreaker was resolved between the Sacramento Kings and the Golden State Warriors. The Kings emerged victorious and are now set to pick at No. 13 if they do not move up in the draft lottery. On the other hand, the Warriors secured the No. 14 pick, the final selection in the lottery. However, there is a twist as the pick will be conveyed to the Portland Trail Blazers unless the Warriors manage to move into the top four, a scenario in which they have just a 3.4% chance.

The tiebreaker results also affected the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers. The 76ers will have the 16th pick, with the Lakers following closely behind at No. 17. The Lakers’ pick could potentially be conveyed to the New Orleans Pelicans, but the Pelicans must make a decision by June 1. If New Orleans chooses to defer the pick, they will instead receive the Lakers’ first-round pick in 2025.

Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers

In addition, the tiebreaker impacted the Orlando Magic and the Indiana Pacers. The Magic secured the No. 18 pick, while the Pacers will pick at No. 19. Furthermore, Indiana’s pick is set to be conveyed to the Toronto Raptors as part of the Pascal Siakam trade.

The tiebreaker also determined the draft order for the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, and New Orleans Pelicans. The Bucks will have the 21st pick, the Suns will follow with the 22nd pick, and the Pelicans will close out the sequence at No. 23. Notably, there is a swap between Milwaukee and New Orleans for picks 21 and 23 as part of the Jrue Holiday trade in 2020.

A tiebreaker was held between the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks, both of whom finished with a 50-32 record. The Mavericks came out on top and will have the 24th pick in the upcoming draft. Interestingly, Dallas’ pick will be conveyed to the Knicks as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade in 2019.

The tiebreaker also impacted the Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Nuggets secured the No. 28 pick after winning the tiebreaker, leaving the Thunder with the No. 29 pick. Notably, the Oklahoma City pick will be conveyed to the Utah Jazz as part of a series of trades.

The recent tiebreakers have reshuffled the draft order for the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft, setting the stage for an exciting selection process in June. With each team vying for the best position to secure top talent, the lottery results will play a crucial role in determining the final draft order. Fans and teams alike will be eagerly anticipating the outcome as the countdown to the draft begins.
