Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) has announced that Juri Vips will be driving the #30 car for the final three races of the season. This opportunity comes as the team evaluates talent for its 2024 line-up. Vips, a 23-year-old three-time Formula 2 race winner, was once a part of the esteemed Red Bull Junior Team between 2018 and 2022. However, his stint with the team came to an abrupt end when he used a racial slur during a Twitch livestream. Despite this setback, Vips made his F1 free practice debut at the Spanish Grand Prix just a month prior to the incident.

Vips had his first taste of IndyCar action in October 2022 at Sebring, where he tested for RLL. He later had another opportunity to drive an IndyCar at Barber in March of this year. In addition to these on-track experiences, Vips has also been involved in static simulator testing for the team throughout the current season. It is through these interactions that Vips has formed a positive impression of the team and its atmosphere.

Rahal expressed his satisfaction with Vips joining the team for the Portland and Laguna Seca races, stating that he was impressed by Vips’ talent during their previous testing sessions together. The team is eager to see how Vips performs in a race weekend setting, and there is speculation that he may be included in the team’s plans for the upcoming season.

Vips’ primary goal for these races is to secure a top 22 finish in entrants’ points. This achievement would qualify the #30 car for next year’s ‘Winners Circle’ program, which offers a substantial monetary reward of nearly $1 million to each entry. Currently, the car is tied on 160 points with Meyer Shank Racing’s #60, which will be driven by Tom Blomqvist in the upcoming events.

Gratitude and Determination

Vips expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to drive for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, acknowledging Bobby Rahal, Mike Lanigan, and the entire team for giving him a second chance. Despite not having driven all year, Vips is eagerly anticipating this opportunity and is determined to deliver a strong performance for the team. He spoke highly of the team’s atmosphere and his positive relationship with everyone involved, emphasizing the advantage of being familiar with the team dynamics.

Vips is focused on proving himself and achieving his main mission of getting the team into the Winners Circle. Drawing on his experience and driving style, Vips feels confident that the tracks at Portland and Laguna Seca will suit him. He has already integrated himself within the team, having worked on the simulator for them earlier in the year. This familiarity and comfort within the team are seen as significant advantages for Vips as he embarks on this new challenge.

A Second Chance for Redemption

With his troubled past behind him, Juri Vips now has the opportunity to show his true potential with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. This partnership not only allows Vips to showcase his skills on the racetrack, but it also serves as a chance for personal growth and redemption. As the final races of the season approach, all eyes will be on Vips as he strives to make the most of this second chance and secure a successful future in the world of motorsport.
