Manchester United are reportedly interested in speaking to Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Gary O’Neil about a potential role in a new coaching set-up at Old Trafford. The new regime at United, led by INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford, is looking to build a new coaching structure with a head coach at the helm.

While the final decision on Erik ten Hag’s future as manager is still pending, sources have revealed that United have already considered England manager Gareth Southgate, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank as potential successors. O’Neil, who took over as manager at Molineux last August, has impressed by guiding Wolves into European qualification contention this season.

Gary O’Neil started his coaching career with Liverpool U-18s after being hired by Michael Edwards, the club’s sporting director at the time. He signed a three-year contract with Wolves last summer and has a track record of success in the Premier League, having previously coached Bournemouth to top-flight survival in his first season.

In addition to assessing managerial options, Manchester United are also looking to revamp their entire coaching team. O’Neil’s experience and success in the Premier League make him an attractive candidate for a coaching role at Old Trafford. However, United would have to negotiate compensation with Wolves if they decide to bring O’Neil on board.

Sources have confirmed Manchester United’s interest in Gary O’Neil, although the specifics of the role they have in mind remain unknown. O’Neil, who has previously worked with senior figures at the club during his time at Liverpool, is aware of United’s interest and is open to discussing his intentions with the club. The 40-year-old midfielder turned coach could bring a wealth of experience and expertise to United’s coaching staff, should he make the move to Old Trafford.
