New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen is all set to make his debut in the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) at the Chicago street race next week. This is part of Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 programme. Van Gisbergen arrived in the US last week to begin his training, which included being a part of the team in Nashville, where he witnessed his teammate Ross Chastain end a year-long winless spell. The experience of oval racing has aroused van Gisbergen’s interest, and he is open to participating in a speedway race in the future.

Van Gisbergen’s keen interest in NASCAR

Van Gisbergen has shown keen interest in NASCAR and is open to participating in a speedway race in the future. During a press conference ahead of the upcoming race, he admitted that he had itchy feet while sitting on the sidelines. He has even discussed the possibility of a speedway race with Trackhouse boss Justin Marks. Van Gisbergen will be experiencing his first real-world NASCAR experience today when he takes the Trackhouse Chevrolet out on the Charlotte Roval.

Preparing for the race

Van Gisbergen has completed a seat fitting and is ready for his first real-world NASCAR experience. He will be preparing for the race by heading back to the simulator before hitting the streets of Chicago next weekend. He explained that his time in the simulator would be spent learning and getting comfortable with the car and the dynamic of the team with the engineer and crew chief. He will also be learning how to manage the strategy as it is quite different from what he is used to in Supercars. The pits close when the yellow comes out, and there is no pit speed limiter. He will also have to learn how to race with respect and stay out of trouble as the other drivers are fighting for their championship every week.

Van Gisbergen’s future plans

Although Van Gisbergen is under contract with Triple Eight in Supercars until the end of 2024, he has made it clear that he is open to an overseas move after that. His experience in NASCAR has only stoked his interest further and the chance to participate in a speedway race has only made him more excited.

Van Gisbergen’s debut in NASCAR is eagerly awaited, and his experience in the sport is sure to be a memorable one. His openness to participating in speedway races in the future is a positive sign for the sport, and it will be exciting to see what the future holds for this talented driver.
