Simone Inzaghi, the manager of Inter Milan, has admitted that his team would be the underdogs in the Champions League final against either Manchester City or Real Madrid. After defeating AC Milan 3-0 in the semifinals, Inzaghi acknowledged that his team had to face tough opponents in the final. Lautaro Martinez scored the winning goal in the 74th minute to secure a 3-0 aggregate victory over their rivals, following a 2-0 win in the first leg last week.
Inter Milan’s Return to Form and Focus on Serie A
Despite facing criticism and pressure a month ago due to a lacklustre run of results, Inzaghi’s team has turned it around and won eight consecutive games in all competitions, building on a solid defence that has kept six clean sheets in their current winning streak and conceded only three goals. Inter Milan is currently third in Serie A and will face Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final on May 24.
Inzaghi said that Serie A is now the primary focus for his players, who will face newly crowned champions Napoli on Sunday. He gave his players a day off to rest before they prepare for the league match in Naples.
Despite acknowledging that his team would be underdogs in the final, Inzaghi remains hopeful, stating that football is always open. He watched the second leg of the Manchester City and Real Madrid match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and said that whoever they face in the final, they would be unlucky, as both teams are great with incredible quality.
Inzaghi praised his team’s victory over Milan, which was their fourth successive win over their city rivals, and said that they showed strength, determination, aggression, concentration, and were wonderful. Before their two semifinal victories, Inter beat Milan 3-0 to lift the Italian Supercup in January and grabbed a 1-0 win in Serie A the following month.
