Antonio Giovinazzi set the fastest lap in the second practice session of the World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Giovinazzi’s #51 499P Le Mans Hypercar was 1.278s faster than second-placed Miguel Molina in the second Ferrari. Third was Earl Bamber in the #2 Chip Ganassi Racing-run Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh.
Incidents during practice session
The session was interrupted twice due to crashes involving Hypercars. The first incident involved the Ganassi #3 Cadillac driven by Renger van der Zande and Dane Cameron’s #5 Penske-run Porsche 963 LMDh which lost power. The second red flag was caused by an incident involving the GTE Am Ferrari 488 GTE Evos of Thomas Flohr and Diego Alessi at Raidillon.
Robin Frijns sets pace in LMP2
In the LMP2 category, Robin Frijns set the fastest lap in the #31 WRT ORECA-Gibson 07. Filipe Albuquerque’s #22 United Autosports example was second, 0.410s behind Frijns, and Louis Deletraz put the #41 WRT ORECA third. Prior to the second red flag, Davide Rigon had set the fastest lap in the GTE Am category in the #54 AF Corse Ferrari.
Overall, the practice session saw some fast laps and incidents that affected the practice time of some teams. The teams will have to make adjustments to their cars and strategies ahead of the race.
