Garnet Hathaway, a professional NHL player, was attending a Sunday night game at Fenway Park between the Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals when a foul ball off the bat of Boston’s Justin Turner came towards him in the first inning. Hathaway, who had just settled into his seat in a luxury box behind home plate, stood up, reached out with both hands, and made the clean grab.

Prepared for the Unexpected

Hathaway had a heads-up from one of the concession guys just as the game started, warning him about foul balls. He had just sat down, and his wife had taken their kids home, but he was still able to catch the ball. Hathaway had caught a foul ball before years ago at Yankee Stadium during a Red Sox-Yankees game.

A Special Birthday Gift

Hathaway plans to give the ball to his son, who was turning two that day. He expressed a desire to have the ball signed by Turner and said it would be really special if he could make that happen. Hathaway played for the Boston Bruins this season after being acquired from the Washington Capitals at the trade deadline. He is currently a free agent. The Bruins set an NHL record for points and victories this season but were upset in the playoffs.
