Former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has made the decision to return to college football as he finalizes a two-year deal to join UCLA’s staff. Bieniemy, who grew up in the Southern California area, is excited to be back at UCLA, where he previously worked as an assistant from 2003-05. This move marks a significant moment for both Bieniemy and the Bruins, as they look to establish a strong offensive presence under new head coach DeShaun Foster.
Despite having opportunities to remain in the NFL, including interviewing for head coaching positions and other offensive coordinator roles, Bieniemy made the choice to transition back to the college level. He mentioned that one NFL team even offered him an assistant head coach/running back job, but he ultimately decided that the timing was right to make the move to UCLA. Bieniemy emphasized that his decision was not solely based on financial factors, but rather on the opportunity to continue developing young athletes and contributing to the growth of the program.
With 16 years of NFL experience under his belt, Bieniemy brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Bruins. Having served as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won two Super Bowls, Bieniemy is confident that his success at the professional level will translate well to the college recruiting landscape. He is determined to generate enthusiasm among potential student athletes considering UCLA, especially as the program prepares for its move to the Big Ten Conference.
As a seasoned coach with a track record of success, Bieniemy is eager to support DeShaun Foster in his role as UCLA’s head coach. Foster, who is entering his first season as a head coach, recognizes the importance of having an experienced coach like Bieniemy on board to help shape the team’s offensive identity. Bieniemy views his return to college coaching as an opportunity to mentor young athletes and guide them towards excellence both on and off the field.
While some may question Bieniemy’s decision to leave the NFL for a college coaching position, he is undeterred in his pursuit of greatness. Drawing inspiration from other successful coaches who have made a similar transition, Bieniemy is focused on conquering this new chapter in his coaching career. He is determined to prove his worth and build a winning program at UCLA, emphasizing his commitment to excellence and his passion for the game of football.
