Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has expressed skepticism about his team’s ability to replicate last season’s treble success. Despite being favorites to win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup this season, Guardiola believes that achieving such a feat is highly unlikely. Guardiola stated during a news conference, “This is a fairytale, it’s more complicated than that. Try to beat Everton and we will see what happens.”

Guardiola emphasized the difficulty of accomplishing back-to-back trebles, highlighting that no team in English football history has achieved this feat before. He pointed out that if it were easy, Manchester United would have accomplished it during their dominant era. The City manager acknowledged that past achievements do not guarantee future success and emphasized the need for consistent dedication and effort. “You have to do all the things again every three days to stay there until the end. Hopefully we arrive in March and April with the same feeling to fight for the titles in May. This is the target,” Guardiola remarked.

City’s Current Form and Squad Boost

Although Guardiola expressed caution, Manchester City’s recent performances have been impressive, with a nine-game winning streak, including a 3-1 victory over Brentford. The team has also welcomed the return of key players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and John Stones, boosting their chances for success in the upcoming fixtures.

Despite their recent success, Guardiola urged caution and vigilance from his players. He emphasized the need to avoid overconfidence and complacency, stating, “Too much of ‘how good are we’ or ‘how good, City are back.’ No no, be careful. We will see. The fact we won the last five games [in the Premier League] is no guarantee we’re going to win the next game. We have to do it again.”

Guardiola acknowledged the challenges posed by their competitors, especially Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Tottenham. He emphasized that every game is a final and that maintaining consistency throughout the season is crucial. With 16 games still to play in the Premier League, Guardiola recognizes the need to remain focused and expects tough competition until the end.

Overall, Pep Guardiola remains cautious about Manchester City’s chances of reclaiming the treble this season. While recent form and squad reinforcements provide reasons for optimism, Guardiola emphasizes the difficulty and unpredictability of football. The team must remain focused, avoiding complacency, and consistently perform at their best to have a chance at achieving their targets in the upcoming months.
