AJ Foyt Racing has announced that 25-year-old Connecticut native Santino Ferrucci will be returning to the team for the 2023 IndyCar season. Ferrucci will once again be behind the wheel of the team’s #14 Chevrolet-powered entry, with Sexton Properties continuing as the primary sponsor.

Ferrucci’s first year with AJ Foyt Racing in 2023 marked his return to full-time driving in IndyCar since 2020. While the team ended the season in 19th place in the standings, there were glimpses of potential throughout the year. One notable highlight was Ferrucci’s performance in the Indianapolis 500, where he started fourth and finished an impressive third. This result not only stands as Ferrucci’s career-best finish but also gave the team its best outing in the prestigious event since 2000. The year before, Foyt had seen victory with Kenny Brack in the Indy 500.

Ferrucci expressed his enthusiasm about continuing with AJ Foyt Racing, stating, “I’m super stoked to be back with the team. It’s really good to start building some continuity with everybody, and I think it’s going to improve our results. My expectations for the year are to come out of the gate a lot more prepared than we were last year. Working with Penske, things are hopefully going to be a lot smoother, and I’m looking forward to being back at the Indy 500 again.”

Team president Larry Foyt also shared his excitement about Ferrucci’s return, stating, “I’m very happy to have Santino back. We worked well together, and he brings a good energy to the team. Obviously, we have our eyes set on the Indy 500, but we also had some good pace in other races but didn’t get the results. Together, we are focused on moving up in the championship standings, and I believe we can achieve that.”

Sophomore Sting Ray Robb Joins AJ Foyt Racing

In addition to retaining Ferrucci, AJ Foyt Racing has also confirmed that sophomore driver Sting Ray Robb will be joining the team for the 2023 season. Robb was announced as the driver of the team’s #41 Chevrolet last month.

Robb, who competed in all the rounds of the 2023 season with Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing, is looking to make a name for himself in IndyCar. His best result of the season came at the season finale at Laguna Seca, where he finished 12th.

Before making his way to IndyCar, Robb had an impressive track record in the development ranks. In 2020, he captured the title in USF Pro 2000 (then Indy Pro 2000) with seven wins, five poles, 11 podiums, and four track records in 17 races. He followed that up by finishing as the runner-up for the Indy NXT championship in 2022, earning one win, eight podiums, and two poles in 14 races.

No Plans for a Third Car

While AJ Foyt Racing is bolstering its lineup with Ferrucci and Robb, there are no current plans to field a third car for the 2023 season. The team’s focus will primarily be on the efforts of their two drivers as they aim to improve their performance and climb up the championship standings.

The 2023 IndyCar season will kick off with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 10th. Fans of AJ Foyt Racing will be eagerly anticipating the start of the season and the potential success that lies ahead for the team with their talented driver lineup.
