Arsenal have turned down an initial proposal from Monaco for striker Folarin Balogun, as the Premier League club values him at €58 million ($64m), according to sources. While Arsenal is willing to let Balogun go for the right price, they have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of goalkeeper Matt Turner, another United States international.
With two years left on his Arsenal contract, Balogun is keen on a permanent move given the limited first-team opportunities he is likely to receive at the Emirates Stadium. Furthermore, the recent knee injury to Gabriel Jesus is not expected to open up doors for Balogun. Despite an impressive loan spell at Ligue 1 side Reims last season, where he scored 21 goals in 34 starts, Balogun finds himself behind new signing Kai Havertz and Eddie Nketiah in Arsenal’s forward line.
Turner’s Departure and Forest Move
On the other hand, goalkeeper Matt Turner will be leaving Arsenal after making just seven appearances for the club since joining from New England Revolution last summer. The 29-year-old shot-stopper is set to join Nottingham Forest for an initial fee of £7m, which could potentially rise to £10m with add-ons. Turner’s departure creates room for potential recruit David Raya from Brentford, although the two clubs have yet to agree on a fee.
The Balogun-Monaco Deal
Monaco’s opening offer for Balogun has been rejected, but the situation remains fluid. The Gunners are reportedly open to negotiating with other clubs, and there are rumors that Inter Milan is also interested in the young striker. As Balogun grows frustrated with his lack of playing time at Arsenal, it seems that a move away from the London club is becoming increasingly likely.
Potential Arrival of Raya
Arsenal is in talks with Brentford over the potential signing of goalkeeper David Raya as a competitor for the No. 1 spot alongside Aaron Ramsdale. Negotiations are ongoing, with the Gunners confident that they can secure a deal below Brentford’s £40m asking price. If the transfer goes through, Raya and Ramsdale will battle it out for the starting position, providing Arsenal with a healthy competition between two talented shot-stoppers.
Arsenal’s triumph over Manchester City in the Community Shield provides the team with hope for another title run. The 4-1 victory on penalties after a 1-1 draw showcased the resilience and determination of the Gunners. This win serves as a morale boost for the team as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season.
Arsenal’s refusal of Monaco’s initial offer for Balogun indicates the club’s recognition of the player’s value. While Balogun’s future remains uncertain, the agreed deal between Arsenal and Nottingham Forest for Turner’s transfer showcases the club’s willingness to make strategic changes to their squad. As negotiations continue for Raya’s potential arrival, Arsenal aims to strengthen their goalkeeping department and enhance their chances for success in the upcoming season.
